Rastlös Förlag is a newly established Malmö-based book publisher and Oäktingen (The Bastard) is their first release. During the evening, Françoise Fournier (dancer, actor and dishwasher) will read from the book. To give you a poetic glimpse into the life of Violette Leduc, we will also show the documentary In Pursuit of Love by Esther Hoffenberg.
The book will be for sale to a special price of 120 SEK (bring cash). We will also serve refreshments.
The Bastard by Violette Leduc is an autobiography incomparable in the history of literature. Few books have managed to be as brave and honest as this. Written without evasions or excuses, unaffected by the expectations of others, she tells the story of her life with a fearless honesty, as was there no reader.
In 1969, The Bastard was released in Swedish, translated by Eva Alexanderson. Now, 45 years later, this manuscript rouses from its slumber and steps out of oblivion. The book includes an affectionate preface written by Simone de Beauvoir, who was also Leduc’s editor throughout her career.
The cover of the new edition is illustrated by Malmö-based artist EvaMarie Lindahl.
