Moon & Sun is a video work that will be shown on KRETS’ window between December 22 and January 2. Since our start in 2007, we have invited different artists to present installations in our window around New Years’. The first year, Push the Button (Rasmus Svensson) constructed a map with images of cosmos and hidden parts of the universe. In 2008, Pär Thörn drew a mind map presenting different theories about the murder of Olof Palme – and the following year Jenny Nordberg (Apokalyps Labotek) and Caroline Andersson (Svärta, Psychic Malmö) covered the window with sour milk, leaving a peephole through which by-passers could glimpse into a world full of geometric models and optical tricks.
This year’s artist is Monica Tormell, who is also part of the Dutch artist collective The Session and who makes music under the name Moon & Sun. During the holidays, she will show a video work connected to her Moon & Sun theme, which is best seen during dark hours.

Equipped with an arsenal of cassette tape recorders and cassette loops, they create repetitive music that combines American drone-minimalism of the 60s with Kaoru Abe’s saxophone solos – all while luxurious walls of synthesizers from Ohio is coated with wobbly sitar tones from West Bengal.

We have gathered a large stock of art related publications, e.g. limited edition artist books, zines and various text-based volumes from both big and small publishers. The book fair includes over 100 titles, with about 20-30 publishers represented. In the pile you will find names such as Nieves and Fabrik.
We open at 12.00 with piles of books, mulled wine, saffron buns and ginger thins. Only a few copies of each – so first come, first served! Bring cash, since we don’t accept cards.
December 12 is also the last day of Ragnar Persson’s exhibition Sleeping Village. Another reason to stop by!

Line Linde is a Malmö-based filmmaker who this evening will present a premiere screening of her video work Girls & – based on Audionom’s song Girls & Boys and shot in Malmö. She will also show some other work produced the recent year.
2007 Linde appointed herself as Temporary Artist in connection to her exhibition Slöjmaskinen. Since then she has sporadically entered the role of an artist, to participate in the group shows The Sweded Session at KRETS (January 2010) and Exploitation Exultation in Chennai India (February 2010).
The films Patterns of sun with music by Mats Björk and Without a bottle will be looped during the evening.
Girls & will be screened once every half hour starting 18.15.

Free admissionMay 31, 2010, Louise Bourgeois dies. At the age of 70, she is finally recognized and declared a genius. Few female artists have gotten the epithet of a genius. On what terms does someone get declared a genius? Is the epithet something to strive for? On the walls of the gallery, Jenny Grönvall maps power structures within our culture. Based on her own practice, the arguments are meandered in sweat, flesh and language. Concepts that support patriarchal constructions within the art world are deconstructed one by one, in a swarm of words, sketches and films. Anger and frustration has taken over and the gallery space transforms into a breathtaking meeting with private diary notes and grand theories, all of it with a touch of sharp-edged paranoia.
Jenny Grönvall was born in 1973, and is based in Malmö. Graduated from University Collage of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack) in Stockholm (1995-1998) and Malmö Art Academy (1999-2002). Grönvall mainly works with performance. Since 1998 she has been working with her project Peggy-Sue, and since 2007 with the performance Mr Meese. In her practice, she explores concepts such as the body, gender, class and social positions. Grönvall is represented at Malmö Konstmuseum and Museum Anna Nordlander. She has also performed at Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Ystads Konstmuseum, Lilith Performance Studio and Dunkers Kulturhus.

Admission: 40 SEKOra Cogan is based in Vancouver and started to write songs and perform at the age of 12. Since then, she has made ballads and blues with her unique voice. The songs are strong, seductive and dreamy. Live, Cogan performs in a duo, with extra guitar, accordion and drones. She has been somewhat of a favorite within the independent music scene and toured around the world.
Magdalena Ågren, former member of Surplus People, performs solo under the moniker MAG. She works with live samplings, using megaphone, trombone, guitar, sounds and noise. Twisted pop tunes are built from scratch to form a dystopian lo-fi cacophony. MAG delivers her music with such enormous energy that it will leave you with goosebumps.
( ( k a s s e t t b o l a g e t ) ) is a new label that supports female artists within different music genres. The label’s first release gives you My Pet Goat (sampling-singer-/songwriter) and MAG (trombone-megaphone-pop). These cassettes are limited editions released with handmade covers and hand-printed and handwritten text. The first twenty that buy both cassettes will also get a limited edition screen-printed tote bag. -

“Most people associate the first three months of 2010 with extreme coldness, snow chaos and an undermined infrastructure. One of our largest free daily papers recently presented the headlines “Congratulations! You survived the cold winter!” During these cold months, we started an ambitious film project, where we set out to describe something that could be considered a movement, or maybe a scene. We want to show a selection of various participants that differ from each other geographically as well as interest-wise, but who also have something in common. You get to see live recordings of gigs with Optic Nest and Your Holy Wisdom, loads of cassettes, the dirt at Utmarken in Gothenburg and the art at KRETS. You get to hear about the sociolect of noise music, why Gothenburg is better than Stockholm, and what the band Smycken and the movie Jurassic Park have in common.”

Free admissionbok förlag is releasing r + n = m by Sofie Grevelius. 17 sheets packed in a 30x40x3 cm box, released in an edition of 300. Grevelius’ book r + n = m explores the boundaries between poetry and image, texture and content. It is a quiet interface between the word’s meanings and their appearances. Together, the 17 sheets form a graphical concept of the world. The sheets are not numbered and our task is to puzzle the order.
Sofie Grevelius plays with the boundaries between sight, thought and language. We get to follow her in associations where the difference between not really knowing and knowing sometimes lays in just a simple line. The words in r + n = m are depictions and the sentences turn into images that stays with us long after we have closed the box.
Sofie Grevelius was born 1981 and has graduated from Central Saint Martins in London. She is currently based in Stockholm. This spring, she has exhibited at Galleri Mors Mössa in Gothenburg and Gallery 5 in Lund. Bok förlag is a newly started publication press from Malmö, turning the concept of publishing books inside out.

Admission: 40 SEKTo celebrate April Fool’s Day and the Easter holiday, KRETS gives you to two concerts! A longed-for reunion and a nice visit from Finland.
TSEMBLA is Marja Johansson, a Swedish-Finnish musician based in Turku. Tsembla’s music mixes concrete sound processing and field recordings with acoustic and electronic rhythms and melodies, in carefully composed psychedelic pop miniatures with a tropical and carnivalesque touch. Tsembla’s first EP Tuplafiesta was released earlier this winter on the Finnish label Vauva.
MITTELSFÄR is an improvising duo (Mattias Nihlén and Henrik Kihlberg), with a method to never decide, plan or even talk about an upcoming performance. The purpose is to surprise and challenge themselves and hopefully achieve those short and wonderful moments where improvised music turns into a NOW. This is Mittelsfärs’s first performance after several years of silence.

Free admissionIn his new prose collection Land skall med lag byggas, Pär Thörn combines systems with associative writing. Here, he mixes
everything from poems on Syldavic (a made-up language from Tintin) to Tasteline recipes, from the Swedish spy Fritiof Enbom to the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, from Josef Ström’s never-ending relocations in his apartment, following the order of syllables in the Bible, to the Morse code. The result is both absurd and extremely funny. In his practice, Pär Thörn links several literary traditions, such as Swedish concretism and the American L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E movement. Land skall med lag byggas is his seventh book.Pär Thörn is a writer and conceptual artist, based in Malmö.
